“Hunger Games” To Begin Casting Early Next Year

December 28, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 8 Comments

One of the biggest decisions facing the upcoming production of “The Hunger Games” is who will land the lead role of Katniss.

That critical decision will be the first of several made as production ramps up on the film early in 2011.

Producer Nina Jacobson spoke to the Los Angeles Times about the highly-anticipated film, saying that there are no candidates as of yet.

“We’ll start auditioning fairly early in the New Year,” said Jacobson. “There are no front-runners yet.”

Hailed as the next Twilight, The Hunger Games is the first novel in a trilogy set in a futuristic world where the government forces children to fight each other to the death on live television. Katniss is a 16-year-old girl that takes her younger sister’s place in the games in order to save her life.

Jacobson said of Katniss: “She’s much more of a soldier drafted to duty than she is a character who has a great hunger for violence. She’s forced into it and so are the other kids in the games.”

Jacobson continued: “She has so much inner strength, but she’s a reluctant heroine.”

The next Twilight? So it’s poorly-written, sends the womens’ movement back to the 1600s, and the film will be comprised strictly by folks who cannot act? Great. Thanks for the warning!

Nothing like Twilight, unless you’re comparing it in terms of publicity buzz and excited readers.

Definitely read the Hunger Games trilogy… it’s a far better story, and Twilight isn’t even in the same stratosphere in terms of story and writing quality.

Folks should refrain from comparing anything to Twilight unless you’re trying to steer people with more sophisticated reading tastes away from it!

These books are nothing like Twilight. I’ve read both and the Hunger Games make you think and ponder on the state of the Human Race for days after you have read the series. They are a heart wrenching tail of children, war and loss. Nothing like the fantacy of the Twilight Saga. It’s a great series that is loaded in it’s content.

    It is NOTHING like Twilight!
Twilight is about a co-dependent girl and controlling boy who “fall in love”.

The Hunger Game series is set in a post-apocalyptic world where an over powerful government proves their power to the masses by randomly selecting children from around the country to fight against each other in a televised game where they fight to the death until only one remains.

Not exactly Twilight! Give it a chance! You will not be disappointed!

I’m totally confused. Why would there be any reason to even mention Twilight in the same breath as this? Even more baffling, why isn’t anyone mentioning the elephant in the room, which is the obvious (and actual) comparrison to [the totally awesome and classic] Battle Royale? Now *that’s* a valid comparrison.

Heh, not sure I’d want to see this flick come out while the current administration is still in power. Might give ’em ideas for new revenue. lol

(Aw, c’mon, that’s funny no matter what “side” you’re on.) 😉

comparing The Hunger Games to Twilight is an insult! if you want less people to watch then say that!, but if your talking about how many fans there are and people who read the Twilight series than yes!, I think Tim Burton should direct it and Jonny Depp should play Cinna! it would be so cool! heres a place were you can vote for the people who should play the parts in the movie, its really cool! link: http://www.reelzchannel.com/article/1260/hunger-games-cast-o-rama-vote-for-your-character
