Brendon: Joss-Less “Buffy” Reboot Is A Mistake

Brendon: Joss-Less “Buffy” Reboot Is A Mistake

December 16, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 7 Comments

Actor Nicholas Brendon spent seven years working with Joss Whedon as Xander on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

And while actress Kristy Swanson is looking for a way to be part of the “Buffy” reboot, Brendan may not be as welcomed based on comment he’s made to E! Online about the lack of involvement of creator Joss Whedon.

“I hope their vampires don’t glitter,” he jokes. Then he adds, “You know, listen…I think it’s a mistake, I think that it’s trying to kind of—they have to reach a whole completely new fanbase. And we already have that fanbase. So it’s going to really be hard to kind of do that. But you know, everyone: They remade The Flintstones. Twice, I think.”

Wouldn’t the Buffy he was a part of be a reboot itself since it wasn’t the original? Besides there have been a lot of successful reboots that kept the old fans and brought in new ones as well…BSG and Star Trek just to name a couple.

@Mich67: It wasn’t the original, but Joss worked on that one as well – he wrote it. He actually said later on that the movie was not his actual vision, and that was part of why he wanted to do the series. So is the series a reboot, or is the movie a bastardization? Maybe a bit of both?

The original Buffy movie was an abortion this new Buffy will be the same.

I was always a fan of the TV series because of the movie and I guess I’m part of a rare few who liked the movie too. Still one of my favorite films. Pee Wee Herman’s death scene still cracks me up to this day.

@Mich67, the TV show was not a reboot. The show picked up from the movie and continued the story.

I wasn’t a big fan of the movie (Pee Wee Herman was actually the best thing in it) but because of the concept got into the TV show right away. I do think that this new movie COULD work and I hope it does, just think it’s less likely without Joss’ involvement.

Have to agree with Brendon. It’s too soon to remake Buffy, anyway. Can’t they wait awhile?
