Hollywood’s attempt to find a fantasy franchise to replace “Harry Potter” may have stumbled this past weekend.
“The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader” opened at number one, but fell short of projected estimates. The film took in $24.5 million, a number significantly lower that the last two “Narnia” films drew on their opening weekends. Add in that the third film was the first in 3-D and it’s easy to see why the debut could be considered a disappointment.
Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp’s new movie “The Tourist” opened in second with $17 million.
Last week’s top earner dropped to third. “Tangled” took in $14.6 million. The film has done $115.6 million in three weeks.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I was fourth with $8.5 million, followed by Denzel Washington’s “Unstoppable” with $3.75 million.

I think they said it made $81 million overseas so it’ll probably make it’s money back before it’s through. As for ticket sales in America, the whole weekend seemed somewhat slow. Personally, I thought this one was better than the last one.
