Whedon Turned Down “Buffy” Reboot

December 1, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

josswhedonThe story surrounding the Buffy reboot continues to get more and more interesting.

Last week, we brought you news about the production moving forward and Joss Whedon’s reaction to it.

But now news has come out that Whedon turned down a chance to work on the film.  It’s because of his commitment to work on the big-screen version of “The Avengers” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Whedon was reportedly approached  by rightsholder Fran Rubel Kuzui and husband Kaz Kuzui about being part of the reboot.  However, Whedon turned it down to focus on “The Avengers” and the Kazuis then began pursuing other options for a big-screen “Buffy” reboot.

Surely all the parties involved would have been better served to wait on the reboot until you could have Whedon involved.

We’ll have new details on the “Buffy” reboot on this week’s Slice of SciFi.

    No. No, he didn’t.

And I quote: “”I believe [the producers] did ultimately reach out to my agent after the news broke,” Whedon says. “I think that’s something better left untouched by me.” — EW Popwatch, June 2009

He may just have other things he want’s to do. Creatively, I can’t think it would be very interesting for him to go back to Buffy again. And Whedon seems like a pretty creative guy.

    Summary

Joss Whedon says “It’s gonna be crap.”
Fandom goes stupid on “Why didn’t they ask JOSS!,”
Producers issue press release saying “We DID “ask” him*

*asking as in asking someone how much joss gets paid, realising they can’t afford it and running with it anyway.

I forsee tears and pain in the fandoms future…
