Last year, the original “Paranormal Activity” knocked off the “Saw” franchise. This year, the final “Saw” movie knocked off the follow-up to “Paranormal Activity.”
Audiences were looking for a scare on Halloween weekend and found it with the final installment in the franchise, “Saw 3D.” The film took in $24.2 million in its first weekend of release.
That’s above what many in Hollywood predicted, including some who thought “Activity” could hold on to the top spot at the box-office. But it’s likely that higher ticket prices for “Saw 3D” helped the box-office numbers.
“Paranormal Activity 2” did well in its second weekend with $16.5 million. The film has made over $65 million in its first ten days of release.
In third was “Red” with $10.8 million. Its total box-office receipts are just over $58 million, which is what the film reportedly cost to make.
“Jackass 3D” was fourth with $8.4 million and “Hereafter” was fifth with $6.3 million.
