Cameron Announces Release Dates for Next “Avatar” Movies

October 28, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 6 Comments

Just as 3-D is beginning to show signs of tapering off, director James Cameron is stepping in to possibly rescue it.

The Oscar-winning director announced yesterday that we’ll see the sequels to “Avatar” released in 2014 and 2015. The two films are being shot back to back as we previously reported.

“We’ll continue to follow the same people on the same planet,” producer Jon Landau said, adding “We might go underwater.”

The entire cast is expected to be back. Landau said they’ll work with Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana in order to have them return.

It’s a proven fact that James Cameron does not have original story ideas. He steals ideas from earlier work, then remakes them, claiming they are his. I wonder what movies or stories he is going to steal from to “re”make these next two Avatar movies? Also, should this be filed under 3D rage, or remake rage?

The moving looked stunning but lacked any appeal for me. Going underwater went so well for Star Wars I am glad Avatar will follow the same “original” path.

Well, he might just recycle himself, and we’ll discover that the ‘Abyss’ aliens came from Pandora! 😉

This makes me a happy fan. I thought it would be more bold to set the next story in a different generation. I love what he’s good at, making it all feel reel. Not just the 3-d but all the human sets and gear. It’s what I loved about Aliens and the Abyss also; the tangible quality. Hopefully the story side will go a little deeper and more textured to match the world and action this time.

Avatar was by no means great, but it was still a visually spectacular, fun movie. I really don’t understand why people abhor Cameron so much.
