Image Comics is giving readers a new opportunity to catch up on “The Walking Dead.”
The comic company will begin reprinting issues of the series, starting with the first one, in January.
“Keeping a series like this going year after year is all about creating good jumping-on points for new readers,” said creator Robert Kirkman.
“And what better way to jump on than with the very first issue? Making this series available in single issue form will make it easier for new fans to jump on board and for old fans to fill in any gaps in their collection.”
The reprinted issues will begin hitting comic shops weekly starting in January.

Why bother??? They are already collected about 3 different ways and you can also download the copies in a digital format.

Well I for one have avoided jumping onto the series because I don’t want to have half a collection in tpb and another half in comics (it is messy and hard to organize). I was going to wait either for the series to end (scoff). Or for a second compendium before I’d even consider collecting the comics.
Also if you haven’t noticed a great majority of the graphic novels have gone into multiple printings. The hard covers are way too expensive but never seem to run out and the compendium often goes out of print and often doesn’t get a reprint. Yet Image keeps pumping out copies of all these collections and its because they are selling and selling well! (Especially with the the TV series premiering)
And in regards to digital copies it is really just too hard to choke down that I’m paying and not getting a physical copy. For anyone who collects a series and follows it and re-reads it, it is best to just get the comic books.
Anyway for anyone who’d rather have a comic collection instead of a shoddy tpb collection, this is a smart move. In fact this is the first time I’ve encountered something like this and I intend to get a online subscription immediately.
I love this series and have been reading through my friends copies. I’d love to have my own.
