“Doctor Who” Christmas Special Will Be Fast Tracked World-Wide

October 19, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

The upcoming Christmas episode for “Doctor Who” will be shown in the UK on Christmas day and is expected to be “fast tracked” for other markets around the world.

Australia will air the episode a few days later on Boxing Day.

And while a deal hasn’t been finalized for airing in the United States and Canada, it’s also expected to be shown quickly here as well.

In a related story, actor Mark Sheppard, best known for his work on “Firefly” and “Battlestar Galactica” will have a guest role on the upcoming sixth series.

I am so thrilled that the Beeb gets how eager the rest of the world is to see Whoniverse shows. It’s quite sensible on their part, really. The faster they can get it to broadcast in other countries (particularly the ones mentioned in the article), the less illegal downloading there will be.

@Mari — “Is there a genre show Mark Sheppard HASN’T been on?”

Not many, and that’s usually just because a show couldn’t book him before it got cancelled. He is the king of sci-fi cameos.

What I found hilarious was that both Mark Sheppard and Alex Carter appeared together in an episode of Burn Notice (“Bad Breaks”), then again in an episode of Leverage (“The First David Job”/”The Second David Job”) that aired that same week; and both of those aired right after his appearance in the BSG episode “Blood on the Scales”.

Sheppard just steals whatever scenes he’s in. Now, if he starts making appearances on Fringe…
