If you’re a fan of DC Comics, come January you may notice a difference at the cash register.
The company has decided it will lower the price of 32-page comic books from $3.99 to $2.99 according to USA Today.
DC raised prices earlier this year on the lead of Marvel. Marvel bumped up the cost of certain popular comics. When the price bump first hit, DC planned to increase page count and offer other incentives to comic buyers as part of the higher price tag. Some comics offered a bonus storyline with secondary characters to help fans feel as if they were getting more for the higher price.
“Today’s announcement re-affirms DC Comics’ commitment to both our core fans and to comic book store retailers,” said Jim Lee, DC Comics Co-Publisher, in a statement. “For the long term health of the industry, we are willing to take a financial risk so that readers who love our medium do not abandon the art form.”
The move comes in response to fans complaints about the secondary stories and the new price point not allowing them to sample new titles.
The new price policy takes effect in January.
I used to buy lots of comics in high school when I could get them for $1.50CDN. Now I don’t buy any because I am not willing to pay those retarded prices.
