Original Daleks Coming Back

Original Daleks Coming Back

October 6, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

Many fans weren’t happy with the upgrade done to the Daleks last year in “Victory of the Daleks.”

If you’re worried you’ll never see the classic monsters again, don’t.

Producer Steven Moffatt teases the original design will be back.

“The fact is, we’re not going to lose the old Daleks. We’re keeping them. They’re coming back. We’ll just use them all at once, and have different ranks. All I’ve done is give the Daleks an officer class,” he says while promoting the new book, “Doctor Who: The Brilliant Book.”

Moffatt has said the Daleks may be rested for series six. The classic series monsters have been featured in each season of the new series since it returned (with varying degrees of success).

Of course, I could point out that the design of the Daleks has pretty much changed just about every time they’ve appeared on screen since 1963 and that fans getting up in arms about the new design is a bit of an overreaction, but I won’t….

I’d be fine if we didn’t see them, any version of them, for a whole series at least. They bore me.

I totally agree with you, re: constant redesigns and overreactions.

Cmon, you can’t argue with the fans. They have loved this show for years, some for decades. They love the consistency inherent in the show; the same familiar faces, the reliable Tardis, the predictable plots… oh… right… what are they complaining about again? o_O

Personally, I loved the new look for the Daleks. I’ve pretty much loved ALL of the updated looks for the alien bad guys in the new Doctor Who. And the interiors of the TARDIS have been spectacular in comparison to the old plywood box with lights that was the old console room from the original series. People should just accept that better technology and design means things from the past are going to be updated. Do the people complaining still drive cars with fins on the tail lights?
