Innes Hints About “The Event”

Innes Hints About “The Event”

October 5, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

If you’re tuning in to “The Event” on Monday evenings, you may have a lot of questions. One of them could be about Sophia Maguire, the leader of the secret group, played by “ER” veteran Laura Innes.

If you think you’ve got questions, imagine what it’s like for Innes bringing the character to life.

“The series unfolds all these intricate relationships and reveals how characters are interconnected in unexpected ways,” Innes tells TV Guide. Among those unexpected ties will be a suitor for Sophia, “but it’s a bit peculiar,” hints the actress, “and I can say no more.”

As for her relationship with the President of the United States, played by Blair Underwood, Innes says, “”Sophia’s got a gut feeling that now, at last, there is a beacon of hope for her people. With Martinez, she will do everything she can to maintain the proper order of life, truth and decency.”

“The Event” airs Mondays on NBC.

I understand that in the first few episodes you have to “set the stage” I just hope that they pick up the pace a bit from here on out.

At first it was “interesting” … an X-Files meets LOST, hmm interesting possibilities!! After the second episode of endless LOST (and I mean lost) Flashbacks and stupid Implausibilities (like murder an office full of FBI Agents in a LA Gang style shoot-out (where was the Magnetic Detector in an FBI Building!!???)), the show is TURNING STUPID!!! Beside, I turned off by the liberal style Obummer (Blair Underwood) character as President. Can’t stand Blair Underwood anyway.

FRINGE is STILL the best Sci-Fi (and I don’t mean dumb SyFy) plot and writing on TV right now, with the fun / silly / adventure of Warehouse 13 coming second.

If this show gets anymore far-fetched, I can see the only people watching it in a couple more episodes, will be the wacko conspiracy nuts and UFO flakes on Coast to Ghost AM Liars Club with George Snoory.

This show got me hooked after the second episode. I was just expecting it to be an average conspiracy thriller (ala “24”), but instead I’m getting a deep sci-fi mystery story and I am not disappointed. The only thing that makes me feel bad about this series is that it’s a serial. Don’t get me wrong – I love serials. But serials have a good chance of getting canceled and for shows getting canceled, it hurts the most when they’re serials, because you never get to see the end of the story. “Lost” is a rarity. Most serials never see an ending. I just hope this series gets at least a full season.
