Assuming the big-screen version of “The Hobbit” gets made, you can expect to pay a lot more to see it than you did the original films in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
And it’s not just because of inflation.
You can expect to pay three to five dollars more to see it because it will be on 3-D.
The New York Times reports that MGM is considering showing the film in 3-D. The reason is, of course, money. You can charge more per ticket and make even bigger piles of cash should the film (or in this case films) be a hit.
What isn’t known is whether or not the movie will be filmed for 3-D like “Avatar” was or upconverted along the lines of “Clash of the Titans.”
