Reboot Rage: “The Munsters”

Reboot Rage: “The Munsters”

September 30, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 7 Comments

munstersIt’s been a while since we got up a really good case of reboot rage.

But leave it to NBC to put us back into the reboot rage mood.

According to TV Guide, the network is pursuing a reboot of “The Munsters.”

However, there may be some hope here. TV Guide reports that “Pushing Daisies” creator Bryan Fuller will helm the project and there may be some behind-the-scenes involvement by Guillermo del Toro.

Entertainment Weekly says NBC is looking for the new show to be “‘Modern Family’ meets ‘True Blood.'”

The original series ran from 1964-66 and has been in syndication ever since. The cast has reunited several times for made for TV movies since the show went off the air.

So wait, are we raging about the reboot, or the reboot of the reboot?

I thought the 1st ‘reboot’ was not only unnecessary, it was unnecessarily lame.
Now, I’m wondering why the networks don’t just do a “Classics” line-up and show the ORIGINAL episodes of these shows like Hawai’i 5-0 and The Munsters…and The Addams Family…and how about “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”?
I think showing these old shows–many of them starting out in B&W–would be really interesting and fun for all ages.
As much fun as Saturday NIght Sy-Fy (whatever) movies are, I wish they’d show some classic sci-fi/fantasy movies and/or TV instead of whatever new scary animal hybrid they can think of movie.
I mean, after Mansquito and Sharktopus…what next Chihuahuiguana?

I want to see a Reboot of the Dick Van Dyke Show, with Sylvester Stallone as “Rob”, and Leo DiCaprio as “Laura”.

i think the problem with a remake is that the first reboot was too like the original series. now the humour looks dated, bland and twee. perhaps a better idea would be to do like the addams family films did and make it darker.

OK, doesn’t anyone remember how badly it went the first time they rebooted this show? Do YOU remember The Munsters Today?
