So news that singer Katy Perry has signed on to appear on the new season of the long-running animated hit isn’t really anything new. What is new is how the singer will appear on the show. According to Vulture, Perry will appear as herself and not as an animated version of herself.
Perry’s role with be a live action one for the episode that airs later this year.
Perry generated headlines last week when her appearance of “Sesame Street,” in a video version of her hit song “Hot and Cold” was pulled after parents’ groups said her outfit was “too sexy” for the long-running children’s show. The video, in which Perry sings the song with Elmo, was supposed to run in today’s episode but has been pulled. It’s still available on-line via YouTube, but won’t be part of this or any future broadcasts of the episode.
“In the wake of Elmo’s terrible betrayal, “The Simpsons” puppets wish to announce they stand felt-shoulder-to-shoulder with Katy Perry,” Al Jean, a producer, said.
“The Simpsons” episode with Perry will also feature Martha Stewart, though she will be an animated version of herself. The episode is set to air in December.
