Hamm Thinks He May Be Too Old To Be Superman

September 22, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

When news began circulating last week that Emmy nominated “Mad Men” actor Jon Hamm was the leading candidate to play the Man of Steel in the next Superman movie, there was one response–isn’t he too old?

Hamm, 39, seems to agree.

“I maybe aged out of that competition,” Hamm said of playing Superman. “I don’t know, I think unless Superman’s power was the power of being really old.”

Hamm has been linked to the role before and denied that he’s in the running. The actor has said one problem with playing the Man of Steel is his invulnerability makes him “too perfect.”

But there are some in the comic book community who think Hamm is the right fit, regardless of age.  Director Kevin Smith says he thinks Hamm is an ideal choice.

“That dude could play Batman and Superman,” Smith told MTV News last year. “You look at him and he’s got a f—ing Superman look, but he’s got a Batman thing going on, too.”

My chief complaint about Brandan Routh is that he looked way too young to play Superman. Superman *should* look 35-40 years old.

Bring back Routh! The story was terrible, not him!
