Regular listeners to our show will know we suffer from 3-D rage and Reboot Rage. But it appears that director James Cameron is looking to create a third rage category all for himself.
According to Deadline, the Oscar winning director is looking to jump back into television with a TV series based on his 1994 hit movie, “True Lies.” Cameron and former “Dark Angel” collaborator Rene Echevarria are reportedly sold a TV series possibly based on the hit film to ABC. Echevarria is on board as a producer and show runner, a role he also had on Cameron’s other television project, “Dark Angel.”
Whether the series will be a follow-up to the 1994 hit movie or a reboot following the same concept hasn’t yet been determined. The original version starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis and Tom Arnold.
The original movie is a lot of fun (and seems to air every ten or so minutes on some cable outlet), but whether or not it will translate well into a weekly series remains to be seen. At the time it was released, “Lies” was one of the most expensive movies ever produced. Cameron has previously talked about wanting to mount a sequel but only if he could reassemble the original stars.
We’ll keep our ears open for further developments and bring them to you on a future show or in the Slice of SciFi news feed.

Could be a good idea. Of course, the “big star” will be Tom Arnold
Would love to see Tom Arnold in the Swartzenegger role — just kidding!
I really don’t understand why Cameron is abhorred so much on this show.
Given some of the other features-to-TV and TV-to-features fiascos over the past decade, this is actually one that could work, really well. At the time, I figured True Lies was ripe to be the first of possibly a trilogy of movies, and I expect if the projected price tags weren’t so daunting, we might have gotten them.
Given the success of Chuck and Covert Affairs, and that new show Undercovers starting up this week, I don’t see why this falls into any kind of rage category.
As for Cameron being abhorred, not true. That level is saved for Uwe Boll. But some of the things Cameron’s said ever since Avatar made him more money than Titanic rank in the “did you think even a little bit before you said that” category.
It’s the saying stupid things to torque off your primary audience behavior that’s abhorrent (and to be fair, he’s not the only one living in that neighborhood), as well as thinking you’re the only one who can ever do 3D.
