Darabont Looking Forward to Expanding “The Walking Dead”

September 15, 2010 By Mike Hickerson Leave a Comment

Frank Darabont isn’t just a producer and director of “The Walking Dead,” he’s a fan. He’s a fan of the original comic book series and he says while he’s excited about the series first season, he hopes it won’t be the only one.

Why?

Because there’s some good stuff that comes in later issues that Darabont would like to see realized on-screen.

Specifically, Darabont can’t wait to get to Michonne and The Governor, two of the more popular characters from the series.

“I’m champing at the bit to get to that part of that narrative,” he said. “Of course, you’ve got to earn it. We’ve got to lead up to it with what we’re doing. But I really can’t wait to get those characters in play. And Tyrese [too]…”

In fact, Darabont assured fans that all of the major characters from the comic book series are likely to have a role in later episodes of the tv series, even though the narrative is likely to drift away from the source material occasionally.

“I think all the people who fans of the comic know and love will be in play here as we go,” he promised.

Whether or not Darabont gets to continue playing in the sandbox of “The Walking Dead” depends on how the initial six episodes do when they air on AMC. The series kicks-off on Halloween night at 10 p.m. EST.

“I can’t wait to get to those characters. I love those characters,” he tells MTV.
