Neeson Signs On For “Battleship”

Neeson Signs On For “Battleship”

September 8, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 7 Comments

While the leading actors may not be household names yet, “Battleship” will have a leading actor in one of its supporting roles.

Actor Liam Neeson has signed on to the project according to the Hollywood Reporter. He will play Admiral Shane in the Peter Berg directed adaptation of the popular board game.

Based on the Hasbro board game, the feature, which Peter Berg is directing, centers around a battle on land, sea and the sky between earth’s forces and attacking aliens.

Neeson joins a cast that includes Taylor Kitsch, who plays a Naval officer and the admiral’s future son-in-law; Brooklyn Decker, as the admiral’s daughter; Alexander Skarsgard as a commanding officer and the older brother to Kitsch’s character; and Rihanna as a weapons analyst on the USS John Paul Jones.

I simply don’t understand why this is being made. If you want to make a naval war film, great but why does it have to be associated with one of the most boring games in history? I can see the reviews of the actors now…B 3, hit. C 3, hit, A 3 Hit. YOU SANK MY CAREER!

I sure don’t remember blowing up any UFO’s when I used to play it!

LOL! That would be Battleship the Movie Edition. I can’t believe that this movie is even being pondered. Has Hollywood totally lost their minds?

@Tim: No, they’re just chasing a buck, as usal. They figure, “Well, it worked so well for Transformers (even though it had its own comic book) and Jumanji, it HAS to work for this!” Original programming is too much of a risk, so they figure they’ll just go with a proven title and hope the nostalgia(sp?) factor will kick in and bring in the major bucks.

Hmm. On the one hand, this seems like an obviously horrible no good very bad idea on paper.

On the other so did Clue. And that turned out to be a, red herring. 😉
