SyFy Developing UFO Reality Series

September 7, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 15 Comments

After looking for the unexplained all across our planet with the “Ghost Hunters” franchise, SyFy looks to discover the unexplained in the night sky with a new realty series about the search for UFOs.

The network is developing a new reality show with Billy Ray Cyrus and son Trace in which the duo will investigate conspiracy theories involving unexplained activity and paranormal phenomena, the network announced Tuesday.

In UFO: Unbelievably Freakin’ Obvious, the father-son team will travel across the country offering skeptical solutions to many theories.

“Getting the opportunity to take this adventure with my son, who has always had a keen interest in this area, is a dream come true,” said the country music star. “I hope this series can shine a light on some of the activities we have questioned, and the mysteries that have long inspired us.”

I can see it now. The special Miley Cyrus Guest Star UFO episode. That should pull in some SyFy viewers.

Great, more reality garbage on the SyFy channel. The only good shows on there now are Stargate Universe, Warehouse 13, and Eureka.

Working on that very plan, in fact. It’s my new goal in life.

What I don’t have is a good name, something that encompasses scifi, fantasy, paranormal, and anime/animation.

Summer, I would think some sort of one word name should work. Probably needs to be slightly offbeat to catch attention, and make folks ponder it. Probably need a one line slogan of sorts too. “Imagine Greater” is obviously an oxymoron for SyFy, but something along those lines. I never fancied the “Imagine Greater” slogan”, but they (Universal) were looking for something they could trademark along with the channel name.

You will get my vote for your new channel (no matter what you name it).

How did a channel that was supposed to be about science fiction end up being dominated by people who hate SF?

Paranormal Channel doesn’t really encompass what the channel is about. They need a name that says The Crappy Reality TV and Pro Wrestling Channel in one short phrase.

Hey DC, great idea. One cable channel with nothing but reality shows all the time. Then we can pull the reality programming off all of the others. I know, it will never happen, but dare to dream it. The name should be “ReYal” so it can be trademarked. LOL!
