It’s the tale as old as time, but you’ll have to wait to see it in 3-D.
Disney has decided to indefinitely postpone the 3-D release of “Beauty and the Beast” reports the Hollywood Reporter.
The House of Mouse is interested in waiting for home theater technology to catch up to the technology available in theaters when it comes to 3-D. And that means that “Beast has been put on hold and won’t hit theaters in 2011.
Disney assumes the movie will make more money on Blu-Ray than it will on a theatrical re-release and figures that waiting for more people to adopt the 3-D technology at home will pay better dividends to the studio. But make no mistake–we will see the film in 3-D at some point. Reports indicate the House of Mouse spend $15 million to convert the animated feature to 3-D.
However, the work of remastering the picture won’t go to waste in the short term. Disney plans to issue the remastered film on DVD and 2-D Blu-Ray this October.

This is good news. An October release date for Beauty and the Beast means that I will be able to finally show my 4 year old daughter the movie that stars her second favorite princess!
Sometimes I really hate Disney’s policy on only releasing DVDs for a short period of time.
