Marvel Trying Another “Punisher” Reboot

Marvel Trying Another “Punisher” Reboot

July 27, 2010 By Michael Hickerson 12 Comments

File this one under reboot rage. Or maybe under “third time’s the charm.”

Either way, Marvel says it will try for a third time to bring the Punisher to the big-screen. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed the news at Comic Con.

Feige says that the character is under the welcoming roof of Marvel Studios now and they want to take their own shot at it. Specifically he said he’s hoping for a “Frank Castle” movie shortly, using the real name for Punisher’s vigilante character.

Maybe the third time will finally be the charm.

    Wouldn’t this be 4th times a charm?
Lundgren, Jane & Stevenson have already done it and ‘War Zone’ was a reboot giving us a closer to comic Punisher than the others that didn’t waste much time on the origins.

Actually this would be the fourth attempt at launching a Punisher franchise, there are already three movies featuring that character.

Yep, fourth time’s the charm. And I have even less interest in seeing this version than I did any of the others. Marvel has so many great characters. I can’t believe they’re wasting money on another Punisher reboot.

I stand corrected. Thanks for reminding me of the Lundgren film. Or, perhaps my ignorance was really bliss. 😉

I think they should just do a sequel to Jane’s Punisher movie with new Villains.

If at first you don’t succeed….reboot

The thing is, if you dont act like a pretentious comic aficianado, saying the movies are bad cause it didnt get this right or that..all 3 movies were actually entertaining.

I saw the last two in the theater..and while they might not be exact comic book to screen copies, I never left the theater thinking i wasted my money. I came out entrained by taking it at what it was..a fun action movie with comic ties.

The issue is marvel assumes ALL marvel movies should have box office reciepts like xmen and iron man ..but some characters are more mass market friendly and/or more well known/liked then others.
If the movie was a net gain (no matter how big or small), call it a success and make a sequel that address any issues from previous one.

I enjoyed the Jane movie. I thought the Lundgren movie was nice and explody, but didn’t have the character development of Jane’s movie. I haven’t seen the Stevenson version yet.

Punisher with Jane was great because I loved how it wasn’t just bloody violence(like warzone, tho I did enjoy that one as well). He was a psychological killer as he made Travolta kill his friend and his wife. Brilliant. Jane was great as Punisher.

lundgren was… ok, just not very like the comic (or the character), jane was just a silly, scrawny, not good punisher, and personally i think ray stevenson did the best punisher by far. physically and mentally he was perfect for the punisher. ( Hope R.S. plays the next one too) i have quite a few complaints regarding the first two films but my only complaint for the warzone is that “micro”aka” lieberman” was killed.

Not to sound like “one of those guys” but micro getting killed ties in with the Punisher Max comics, Micro betrays Frank and tries to have him killed, so Frank does what he does best and at the end of the comic puts a bullet through his head. Ok so the film didnt follow the comic but it gave a nod to some good characters.

Though I hate to say it Warzone was more accurate to the comic, but Tom Jane…come that guy was just awesome!!!
