If you’ve seen promos for NBC’s upcoming fall series, “The Event,” you may know that the series is teasing viewers about what the thing in it’s title is. But it’s producers have a promise: they’ll tell you soon.
“Everything’s designed to answer questions so you’re not frustrated, feeling ripped off, feeling like we don’t know what we’re doing,” executive producer Evan Katz said at a Comic-Con panel for the series Saturday. “We’re just trying to be smart and good to the fans in the audience and keep people guessing in kind of a fair way.”
And the producers are aware that fans have been burned by shows promising answers and then never getting to deliver due to cancellation. In that vein, they’re promising that the second episode will deliver answers to questions raised by the first.
Katz said many of the most obvious questions from the pilot episode (screened for fans at the panel) will be answered in the second episode.
Starring Jason Ritter, Blair Underwood and Scott Patterson, among others, the series follows Ritter’s character as he investigates the disappearance of his fiancée, only to expose one of the biggest cover-ups in U.S. history.
Producers also promise the show won’t be left aimless once the initial mystery ends: “The Event” does not focus on the event alone. “There’s definitely an element of mystery and science-fiction to the show,” said creator and executive producer Nick Wauters. “I wanted to create something that had a bit of everything for everyone. The entire story doesn’t rest on it.”
We’ll have more on this show and several others talked about at ComicCon this weekend on this week’s Slice of SciFi.
“The Event” premieres Monday, Sept. 20 on NBC.
