Greenwood: Next “Trek” Begins Filming in January

July 21, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 9 Comments

It’s less than two years until the opening of the next “Star Trek” installment.

And while actor Bruce Greenwood doesn’t know yet if he’ll be needed to reprise his role as Captain Christopher Pike for the sequel, he does know when production will start.

He tells MTV News that filming is set to begin in January on the film. He also said that he thinks there are several stories out there about the potential plot of the film that are intended to misdirect fans. One rumor has Khan returning while another says we’ll get our first look at the rebooted Klingon Empire.

We also don’t yet know if J.J. Abrams will direct the sequel.

I think going for Khan would be a mistake. If they want to take something from TOS and re-do it on the big screen with the new cast, I’d say do the Gorn, or the Tholians, or maybe even the Planet Killer from “The Doomsday Machine.”

I agree with Arkle. Khan is a mistake for this version of Trek. Klingons are a safe bet, and I wouldn’t mind seeing the Gorn again as long as they do any CGI versions better than what we saw in the season four “Enterprise” mirror universe episode. That Gorn was horrible.

Above all, get back out there and explore. I’m all for Trek-‘splosions and starship battles, but that wasn’t the vision of Trek.

I’m with you guys, no Khan (yet)… Let’s boldly go where no one has gone before with this next film!

Remake TMP with Natalie Portman as Illia. Yeah!

If this is a true reboot, why rehash Kahn? Afterall, if the 10,000 Vulcan survivors are happy with the new alternate timeline missing the planet Vulcan, we can do without Kahn too!

I would dearly LOVE to see PIKE/ BRUCE GREENWOOD in the Star Trek sequel.
Having Pike there is more important to me than any story they do. I trust the writers–they’ll do something surprising and spectacular!

Agreed, Bruce Greenwood added a lot to the Trek reboot. Kirk was too much of a lightweight.

I agree that we should not see Khan in this new time line.

I wouldn’t mind something to make better use of the Romulans. Particularly with only 10,000 Vulcans left in this new universe, that could create some interesting conflict!
