“Avatar” Coming Back to Theaters

July 8, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 15 Comments

We’ve known for months that James Cameron wanted another chance to milk some more money out of allow audiences to see “Avatar” again in theaters.

The new director’s cut of “Avatar,” which will run eight minutes longer than the original version, will come out on August 27.

Fox announced that it will be released as a limited engagement exclusively in 3D theaters, including Imax 3D.

“Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora, and wished they could have stayed there longer. So we’re making that possible. ‘Avatar: Special Edition’ will be exclusively in 3D, and will have eight minutes of never before seen footage, including new creatures and action scenes. Whether you already love the movie, or you’ve never seen it, with this special edition, you’ll be seeing it like never before,” Cameron said.

Hmmmm, another $20 bucks and mouth-breathers in close quarters for an additional 8 minutes of footage of foliage and critters. Meh -I’ll wait for the Blu-ray edition.

    Dear James Cameron,

As tempting as it is to model the success of Star Wars, please do not release twenty different versions of your film. It is hardly necessary to re-edit based on your current mood, even if you want to swim around in your money bin like Scrooge McDuck.

    Thank you.

I’ll be there. I truly enjoyed the experience. I just saw it again in 2D and STILL enjoyed it. Of course my wife wasn’t happy that I just ignored her for 3 hours.

He will not get my buck, I will pass thank you. Unfortunately we are in the minority and people keep spending and getting ripped off. Star Wars, LOTR on BLU-RAY etc. etc etc.

Will the eight extra minutes resolve the massive plot-holes in the film? Not optimistic.

yeah, because we need eight more minutes of self indulgence and pretty pictures.

Avaitar was a good movie, but for me, it was just okay. it was a movie to see in the th=eatres and maybe rent on dvd.

My favorite scifi film of 2009 was District 9. it had story, character devopment. District 9 did it better :I hope I do not sound like I hated Avitar, but to me, it’s one of the most overated films ever.

District 9 was definitely a much better story, but Avatar [for me] was just a much better movie-going experience. So, it’s a movie I adore seeing on the screen and saw it 4 times and 1 time on DVD, so far. District 9 was one I saw once in the movies and 5 times on DVD, so far. So as a movie event, Avatar is just hard to deny. As a story… it’s passable. Not great or terribly original, but it delivers an A-B-C performance in a pretty spectacular fashion. I appreciate both. I’ve never seen a reason to play one against the other as they are intended to give two completely different perspectives and two different intents. The only question I care about… was I entertained? I don’t see the need to have to be given a high-brow lesson in human/alien relationships every movie. Sometimes, a simple story can be just as entertaining.

District 9 sucked. I watched it once, never again. I went and seen Avatar 4 times in 2D, 2 times in 3D, and once in IMAX 3D and the closest IMAX to me is 2 hours away
and I for one will be pre buying tickets online for the IMAX showing, even tho the is a 3d theater 10 minutes from here. IMAX or bust. I just hope its in theaters long enough for me to see it more than 2 times.

I didn’t think District 9 sucked, but it was DEFINITELY over rated.

Also, “Moon” was over rated. I don’t know what the slice hosts were drinking and or smoking during that film, but it was VERY predictable. It was a very good film, but not as good as they hyped it up to be.

I seen Avatar once on Pay Per View and I loved it. I watched it out of curiosity, and after that I kept wishing I would have seen it in 3D. I am going to go watch it in 3D and can’t wait.

You’re stupid. How was District 9 over rated. That movie could have done so much better in theaters, but it wasn’t marketed as much as Avatar and people had either low expectations of it or weren’t aware that it was one of those movies that you could expect to be like everything else you’ve seen (lame and mellow) yet turns out surprisingly original and very well put together.

A great example of another movie which should of done so much better, but didn’t have expensive advertisement was Stardust. Truly a great film.
