Fillion, Longoria Reportedly in Negotations for “Avengers”

Fillion, Longoria Reportedly in Negotations for “Avengers”

June 24, 2010 By Michael Hickerson 9 Comments

Actors Nathan Fillion and Eva Longoria may be working together again outside of Wisteria Lane

The actors worked together on TV’s “Desperate Housewives” and several sources in Hollywood indicate the two are in final negotiations to join Joss Whedon’s big-screen version of “The Avengers.”

As previously reported, Fillion would plan Ant Man. Longoria would be cast as Janet Van Dyne, better known as the Wasp.

Whether or not this is a new report about Longoria or a resurfacing of an older rumor that has linked her to the role since 2008 has yet to be determined. But with San Diego Comic Con just around the corner, it’s reported “The Avengers” would like to make a splash with some casting news and adding Fillion and Longoria could be that splash.

It’s also been reported by Latino Review that Marvel is considering introducing some of the lower run characters to audiences via short fims that would play before “Thor,” “Captain America” and other Marvel movies. It’s also rumored that an Ant Man movie could be the next one on the horizon from the studio after “The Avengers” hits theaters in 2012.

Funnily enough, I remember that story about Longoria a while back. I was talking about it with my Mom via Skype, and before even reading the story she saw the picture of her leaving Marvel studios with a stack of Avengers comics and said “Let me guess; Janet Van Dyne?”

Eva Longoria? *bumping head repeatedly against desk*

Well… it’s actuall not a BAD casting, just an annoying one IMO.

Whats wrong with her playing the role. She does a good job on housewives so at least let her give it a shot.

I’ve been wrong about an “X can’t Y” opinion often enough that I don’t even bother making assumptions anymore until I see some footage. Put another way, show of hands how many people, until we started seeing footage, thought that Heath Ledger couldn’t be the Joker? Exactly. So, let’s wait before we judge.

    Fillion + Whedon = awesome.

arkle, i generally agree with your perspective about the “X can’t Y” situation…but haven’t we been burned too many times not too question these things?

i thought Jessica Alba as Sue Storm was a bad idea from the get go. or Halle Berry as (a misbegotten) Catwoman. or Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider.

jack: Good points all, however, I can recall being on certain web boards in 1999 where a good many people reacted quite negatively to the casting news of Sir Ian McKellen as Magento for the then forthcoming X-Men movie. 3rd movie aside, how’d that turn out?

    arkle:

i don’t recall any negative reactions to Sir Ian McKellan as Magneto. frankly, i’m surprised to learn that. when i heard about it, it seemed to make perfect sense to have Sir McKellan in that role opposite Patrick Stewart. and i think he did a fantastic job, 3rd movie aside (where there was just too much of everything that didn’t amount to much of anything).

i’ve never seen Eva Longoria in anything other than Desperate Housewives. can she do it? it’s a tricky balance to be in a super-hero movie. sometimes one small, false note can (almost) ruin a movie.

jack: It was a minority opinion, one I was shocked to read as like you I thought the casting was brilliant. But once the movie came out, they shut up. Some of them even tried to deny they were ever skeptical in the first place.
