Earlier this week, rumors that Neill Blomkamp might take over the directing reigns of “The Hobbit” began to surface on-line and fill Middle Earth fans with hope for the upcoming prequel.
However, the reports of Blomkamp’s (who directed last summer’s “District 9”) involvement were premature. Vulture reports that not only will he not direct, but he was never offered the job.
An insider at his agency, William Morris Endeavor, confirms to Vulture that not only is Blomkamp not doing the movie, no one from MGM/United Artists or Warner Bros. has even contacted them about his directing the film.
Instead, the director is at work on “Elysium,” a top-secret original sci-fi project.
As CinemaBlend pointed out, every day that the directing job is open for “The Hobbit” is another day that Brett Ratner could take over the project.
