Schwartz: Carter Right For “Chuck,” Not for Chuck’s Mom

June 10, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 10 Comments

One of the hot casting rumors concerning NBC’s “Chuck” has been former Wonder Woman Linda Carter stepping into the pivotal role of the mother of Chuck and Ellie Bartowski next season.

And while producer Josh Schwartz thinks Carter would be a good fit for the show, he doesn’t think she’d be the right woman for the role of Chuck’s mom.

“I’m a big fan of women with lassos. [Lynda’s] an icon as an actress and is someone who fits the show’s universe…but not necessarily for this role,” he tells EW’s Michael Ausiello.

“I don’t want to shed too much light on the character,” he adds, “but we need someone who can kick ass.”

So, who do you think could play Chuck’s mom?

One of the original Charlie’s Angels, maybe?

I agree with Indiana Jim…also some other possible candidates: Karen Allen, Jamie Lee Curtis and my personal choice – Linda Hamilton.

Some possibilities (some may not be possible due to availability):

Diane Lane (yes, she’s a movie star, but she does Neutogena commercials so she could be bought. Plus, she has already played Mom to Hayden Christensen).

Annabella Sciorra (she has done TV with both The Sopranos and Law and Order:CI).

Jennifer Tilly (She might be game for this kind of role. Voice might be too squeaky, though, for what could be a pretty serious role).

Monica Bellucci (Just because. Shame about the accent, though).

Gina Gershon (her looks are exotic enough for a spy show).

Famke Janssen (serious genre cred here, plus her English is flawless).

Elizabeth Hurley (she needs to get some work).

Amy Madigan….you want a woman that can kick butt…remember her from Streets of Fire. She’s got the intelligence and that Clint Eastwood squint.

whoever they pick, she has to match the shot that they already showed us of chuck’s mom from the back. remember, in the finale we saw chuck’s mom picking up the phone and someone said, “we have to move you.”

Andy McDowell, 52 and gorgeous and a decent actress. Could use a job to enliven her career. Would make for a perfect mom for Ellie.

Sean Young, 51, gorgeous and a fun actress who would bring something crazy to Chuck. Could use a job to enliven her career.

No I’m sorry but look at Ellie and look at Carter.

Can you think of a closer match?

I agree that Lynda Carter is a fantastic match for the Bartowski kids’ looks, but Sam’s suggestion of Karen Allen would work almost as well. Or maybe Jaclyn Smith from Charlie’s Angels.

It may be tricky finding an actress of the right age who looks enough like Chuck and Ellie, has existing geek cred, and can kick serious ass, but I hope they can pull it off. If not, it’d be okay if they had to go with someone lacking in geek recognition.

I like the Famke Janssen suggestion…but she might still be sore that NBC didn’t pick up her pilot Alibi in 2007.

Sean Young is definitely another good pick…she’s still lookin good!

Robin is really close with Jaclyn Smith, but I think Kate Jackson is an even better fit. Plus, she was on Scarecrow and Mrs. King with Bruce Boxleitner, Capt. Awesome’s Dad! If it can’t be Linda Carter, then Kate Jackson should be it!
