“Shrek” Tops Box Office Again

June 7, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

Are movie goers just huge fans of a giant green ogre or is it just that the other offerings at movie theaters are a bit lackluster, so far, this summer?

Whatever the reason, “Shrek: The Final Chapter” held off four new entries to top the box-office for the third straight week.

Taking in another $25.3 million, the film has now made $183 million and could pass the $200 million mark by next weekend.  Hopefully this won’t encourage DreamWorks to go back on their word and make a fifth “Shrek.”

In second place was new comedy “Get Him to the Greek,” taking in $17.4 million.  Third place went to “The Killers” which took in $16.1 million.

“Prince of Persia” was fourth with just over $13 million and “Sex in the City 2” rounded out the top five.

Genre entry “Splice” opened the weekend in eighth place.

Saw it in 3D… enjoyed it.

So did I. Much better than “Shrek the Third.” Still, I do think it was a great way to end the series,. Methinks it should stay ended.
