Fan Wants “Star Trek: Titan” Mini-Series

Fan Wants “Star Trek: Titan” Mini-Series

June 2, 2010 By News Droid 14 Comments

At the recent Phoenix Comic Con, actor Jonathan Frakes said he’d be interested in taking up the role of Captain William Riker again for a mini-series of adventures about the starship Titan.

For those of you who don’t recall, the Titan is the ship that Riker was assigned to at the end of “Star Trek: Nemesis.”

According to a fan report from the con, Frakes said he wished a mini-series would get the green light. The fan has since started a petition to get the series off the ground.

Whether or not the series would follow the spin-off novels about Riker, Troi and the crew of the “Titan” isn’t clear. The series has published several stories about the Titan and her crew, which is you’re looking for some enjoyable spin-off “Trek” reading this summer, they are worth the time.

Would I like to see it? Sure.

Will we ever see it? I doubt it. The “prime” universe of Trek is pretty much limited to the books and comics now. I don’t think Paramount really wants to re-visit that era after the success of the recent reboot, particularly after Riker and Troi were in attendance at the second worst episode in Trek history — coincidentally, the last voyage of the “prime” universe. 😛

Their time has passed and lets move forward. The reboot was much better and the old style proved it had run the course. I still love them but time to move on to bigger and better.

Maybe. Then again I’d also like to see a New Frontier movie and that’s not bloodly likely either. 😉

Why not? Why should Trek fans have to wait 3+ years for the “next” movie installment? Paramount needs to grease the Trek wheels and keep the ball rolling, I say!

As long as they get some good actors to play Troi and Riker I’ll watch. (Ouch, that’s not fair, Frakes got a little better toward the end but I think he’s better off in the director’s chair).

The JJ Abrams movie was utter crap. I want my Trek back.

Yeah, pretty much. Kinda disappointing, when you think about it.

saw the post of doing new frontier, that would be awesome too. Buuuuutttttt, if they do a Titan mini-series, PLEASE USE THE CREW FROM THE BOOKS or at least some of them like, Vale, Tuvok, Keru, that cardassian kid, who name escapes me at the moment, Pazlar

If it is live-action then IMO we are definitely getting to the point where new actors would need to step in and play the roles of Riker, Troi and Tuvok, unless the photographic anti-aging technique used on Stewart and McKellen from X-Men is employed.

There’s still so much more one could explore in Star Trek ‘Titan’ With years of hindsight and on watching the TV series again, TNG remains a classic and much loved series that was ended before its time, DS9 became too dark and miserable although it has it’s moments, Voyager just got better and better and has many wonderful moments, while Enterprise started hopefully and then went down the tubes very quickly in an attempt to garner the younger audience. In the end, Enterprise became so negateive, defeatist and generally miserable (that alternative 1944 with the Nazis was just laughable, and the Vulcans portayed as paranoid control freaks equally as derisory). The latest Star Trek reboot is flashy, noisy and full of sound and fury, but in the end signifying nothing. It’s a return back to the approach of the original series, but action has taken the place of thought provoking and mind stretching concepts that actually make the viewer THINK.

So a Star Trek Titan series is sorely needed for those fans who loved TNG and Voyager for all the ideals that it showed, the fabulous stories and concepts explored, and much more. Remmeber that Gene Rodenberry’s vision was for a human race far removed from its present sorry mess -he could see that we would have got our act together by the 24th century; I would go so far as to say that the moment the human race actually makes contact with other races out there (and that day must surely come) then there must be a sea change within the human psyche which mean that all of the ‘anti offworlder’ nonsense in Enterprise simply would not have happened.
So you’ve got any number of possible scenarios for Star Trek Titan -a continuation of the heriateg of the much loved TNG and Voyager, lots of new ideas and concepts to explore, with even a nod to time travel. Voyager: Relativity showed just one possibility, Yesterday’s Enterprise another.
Get the old gang back: Riker, Troi, Crusher, Tuvok, whoever. Just don’t piss away the talent and concepts and do it properly: forget the miniseries and get Star Trek back on track. Forget the ‘more action, more explosions’ of the reboot and show what’ awaiting us out there in all manner of experiences!

well i for one would like to see a full series of the titan crew though i havent read any of the books but i would like to see what a captain riker has up his sleeve i mean in tng he didn’t show what he is capable of as a captain but that was to be expected he fulfilled his part of first officer as good as anyone else and i hope if they do make the series and have jonathan frakes as riker which they should i want them to take a leaf out of voyager and tng books be exciting i never get tired of watching voyager or tng so hopefully they get us thinking plus i would like to know about the war between the romulans and these reman i mean they used to be allies now they are enemies i mean what happened? hopefully if paramount would think about they wouldn’t make fans wait for 3+ years would they for another action movie based on star trek?
