Maybe it was the weather. Or maybe it was a lack of great movies at the box-office.
Whatever the reason, Hollywood had its worst Memorial Day weekend in 17 years over the weekend with two heavy hitters failing to click with audiences and a giant green Ogre taking the crown.
The fourth “Shrek” led the box office with $55.7 in ticket sales over the weekend. That easily put the latest animated feature from DreamWorks on top over newcomers “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” with $37.8 million and “Sex in the City 2” with $37.1 million.
Both openings are disappointments for the films, which were expected to be among the blockbuster summer films.
In fourth place was the summer’s highest grossing film (so far), “Iron Man” which took in another $16.3 million. “Robin Hood” rounded out the top five.
Overall ticket sales were down fourteen percent from last year’s Memorial Day weekend.

Huh. So a 4th Shrek was good for something after all. 😉

Well, Shrek is sexier than the Horseface Killah that is Sarah Jessica Parker.
