Is Fillion Ant Man?

May 18, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

A few weeks ago, we brought you news that actor Nathan Fillion was interested in taking on the role of Hank Pym aka Ant Man for the upcoming “Avengers” movie.

It now appears that Fillion has the inside track on the role and may, in fact, have been cast as Pym. While we don’t have any official confirmation of the news, Fillion has cryptically stated that there will be a major announcement coming concerning his involvement with the Marvel Studios universe at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

Marvelous News quotes an anonymous Marvel insider as saying that Fillion is a “lock” for the role and reiterating that something official will announced at Comic Con.

The rumor is also making the rounds that actor Kevin Pennington has been cast by Marvel Studios. Confusion reigned as Pennington was first linked to the role of Pym, but now appears to be linked to the role of Hawkeye.

Again it’s the anonymous source at Marvel providing details to to Marvelous News, saying that Pennington has been cast by Marvel Studios for a Marvel project and that he’s not going to be in the upcoming “Spider-Man” or “X-Men” movies. There were also denials that Pennington is linked to the role of Pym, but to another Marvel comics character.

Of course, we realize that these are just rumors at this point, but the idea of Fillion as Pym seems like a good one. We’ll keep our ears open for official confirmation and bring it to you as soon as we get it.

If they go this route verus an Ant Man movie, then I’m for it. Otherwise, he needs to steer clear of this role. It’ll truly typecast him in a sphere he’d rather not be in.

He’s more known now for “Castle” than he ever was for the part of Mal Reynolds.
I say, if they want to cast him as Pym, let it be so!
More exposure! More people will know what *we* have all known since “Firefly”.

As long as he has a hammer somewhere on his utility belt, I am down with it.
