Movie audiences were more interested in seeing more of Tony Stark than they were Robin Hood this past weekend, at least in the United States.
Domestically, “Iron Man 2” took in $16 million more than “Robin Hood” to claim the box-office crown this week.
The second week of “Iron Man 2” took in $53 million and boosted its domestic total to $212 million in ten days. As of now, the movie is on track to surpass the total of the original.
In second place was “Robin Hood,” which suffered from negative reviews. It took in $37.1 million. However, there is a silver lining for the film, which took in $74 million internationally. Of course, “Iron Man 2” has been out for three weeks now internationally with Paramount deciding to strike before excitement wound up for the World Cup soccer matches.
So this means you can expect dueling ad campaigns this week, touting both films as number one.
Meanwhile, the romantic comedy “Letters to Juliet” took in just over $13 million and “Just Wright” took in $8.5 million. Rounding out the top five was “How to Train Your Dragon.”
