Coppola Calls 3-D “Tiresome”

Coppola Calls 3-D “Tiresome”

May 13, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

While many in Hollywood are rushing to embrace 3-D, don’t look for Oscar winning director Francis Ford Copolla to jump on the band wagon.

The director of “The Godfather” saga says that he thinks 3-D it “tiresome.”

“I feel that until you can watch 3-D without glasses, it’s the same thing we know,” Coppola told Electronic House. “I personally do not want to watch a movie with glasses. It’s tiresome.”

Turns out the director even took off his 3-D glasses during parts of Avatar—even though that meant he was watching the film out of focus.

Coppola did call Cameron’s blockbuster “fantastic,” but said that “I don’t see why a movie is better in 3-D.”

He added that Hollywood’s studios rush to make 3-D movies is just a way “to make you pay more money for a ticket.”

Gotta agree with Godfather Copolla on this one. I find all this 3D hype boorish.

I haven’t seen any 3-D movies yet, so I can’t really have an opinion about it.

The glasses are the thing . . . I wear contacts, and I’m very particular about having sharp and clear vision. I’ve never experienced glasses that met my performance expectations.

My choice will always be 2-D over 3-D until glasses are not needed . . . I think those will be called holograms, and they too will likely have issues making them more of a bother than an improvement.

I love 3D movies that are made to be seen in 3D. Movies being remastered for 3D are tiresome. Outside of Avatar, I’ve only seen animated CGI movies in 3D. How to train your Dragon in 3D was awesome.

Movies don’t HAVE to be 3D. Avatar was nice in 3D, but it wasn’t necessary. For most 3D movies it’s just a gimmick in my opinion. If they could make a 3D movie experience that moved beyond the traditional flat screen, then I’d be more interested. Say for example the original virtual reality headsets with today’s technology, only without having to wear those large headsets. A 3D movie with 180 degree viewability would definitely be an experience I’d pay more for.
