U.S. To Get “Being Human” Series 1 on DVD

April 22, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 1 Comment

U.S. fans of the BBC series “Being Human” will get a chance to catch up on the first series before the second series begins airing in the United States this summer.  BBC America will release the first series on DVD in July.

This July, the BBC continues pushing the boundaries of the supernatural by unleashing to DVD and Blu-ray the highly-acclaimed drama – Being Human: Season 1.  This witty, yet terrifying hit BBC AMERICA series follows three twenty-somethings and their secret, tortuous double-lives – as a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost. Being Human‘s premiere last year on BBC AMERICA garnered media acclaim including The New York Times lauding its “delicate balance of engrossing drama and disarming humor” and People Magazine proclaiming “True Blood fans will enjoy this.” At Comic-Con 2009, stars Russell Tovey (Little Dorrit, Gavin & Stacey), Aidan Turner (Desperate Romantics, The Clinic) and Lenora Crichlow (Sugar Rush, The Bill) were greeted by a standing room only crowd. There is great buzz behind BBC AMERICA’s Being Human and now SyFy has commissioned an American adaptation that is set to air later this year.

Created by Toby Whithouse (Doctor Who, Torchwood), Being Human is an extraordinary look into the lives of hospital porters George (Tovey) and Mitchell (Turner). Toiling anonymously in Bristol, England, they lead lives of quiet desperation under the burden of a terrible secret – Mitchell’s a vampire and George is a werewolf. Deciding to start life afresh and leave behind the dark side, they move into a house, only to find that Annie (Lenora Crichlow), the ghost of a woman killed in mysterious circumstances, haunts it. As the three deal with the challenges of their new lives together, they’re united in their desire to blend in with their human neighbors. However, with unwelcome intruders into their world, a threatened revolution from the vampire underworld, constant threats of exposure, and the day-to-day issues faced by young people – the only thing they may be able to rely on is each other.

The Being Human: Season 1 DVD and Blu-ray collections each feature all six episodes along with over an hour of bonus material including deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, video diaries, character profiles, an interview with Whithouse and more.
