Which Shows Are On the Bubble?

April 5, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 10 Comments

As the May upfronts approach the big question on many fans minds is–will my favorite show get renewed?

The Hollywood Reporter has a list of several shows that are considered on the bubble for a new season.  Included among them are “Flash Forward” and “V.”

According to the report, both shows were considered solid choices to make it a second season.  But their spring returns haven’t exactly set the ratings on fire like ABC hoped, making both shows candidates for a one-and-done run.

The report indicates that of the two, “V” has a better chance of a second season.

Meanwhile, NBC is facing some important decisions as they continue to clean up the fallout of the failed Jay Leno in prime-time experiment.  One show that is firmly on the bubble is “Heroes.”   With falling ratings and the high price tag for the show, NBC may opt to not bring the one-time ratings giant back for a fifth season.

There is good news for fans of “Chuck.”  The report says that the show’s future is more favorable than it was at this time last year.  However, we must stress again that the best way to keep Charles Bartowski around for another season is to tune in!  A major campaign like we saw last year with Subway won’t capture the same attention.

Fox only has a couple of bubble shows left: “Human Target” and the new comedy “Sons of Tucson.” “Target” has managed to win a humble Wednesday time period with an equally humble number. But the network likes the show, and its ratings have appeared to stabilize at a level Fox finds acceptable for its slot.

CBS has a couple of bubble shows including “Numbers,” “Ghost Whisperer,” “Medium.”   Of the three, “Numbers” is considered the least likely to come back due to the growing cost of production.

The article only addresses network shows, so we don’t have any news on whether or not the syndicated “Legend of the Seeker” may be gaining or losing ground on a third season.

Am I the only one noticing that there aren’t any “reality” shows ever on the bubble?
Like Mike just said, the only way to keep the cool shows on is to WATCH them!!!
Even if it’s Heroes. Watch, so at least The Powers That Be will know that there is an audience for this stuff that we love so much.

I thought Numbers had already been cancelled. I didn’t watch it personally, but my grandmother loved it, so I’d be sad if it went.

The problem with watching Heroes just because it’s sci-fi is that it’s not good sci-fi anymore.

Reality shows don’t really get a “bubble” per se since they are designed to be one season wonders. Unless it’s just a ratings monster like Idol or Dancing then it’s just assumed they won’t be back for another go.

“spring returns haven’t exactly set the ratings on fire like ABC hoped” Why is any surprise that shows don’t do as well after they TOTALLY KILL ANY MOMENTUM WITH A LONG ABSENCE!? Geeze, V was gone so long that they felt the need to have the return episode be nothing but a recap clip show. I couldn’t believe that I’d waited all that time for a “new” episode with absolutely no new content!

I have absolutely no problem with FlashForward or Heroes being cancelled. V… well, I’ve been enjoying V so far.

I like numbers, especially Dom’s character when it’s dark, but I understand if they cancel it since its run its course. Heroes and V have sucked, the last episode of V was all right, but Heroes is garbage. It’s still better than reality TV, but that’s not saying much. Legend of the Seeker is awesome. It’s got the best production value besides Stargate. Supernatural is the best show on TV, but there use to be a lot of good ones like The Unit, Life, Connor Chronicles, Angel and I could go on and on, but they continue to dish out this mind numbing reality series because they’re cheap to make. TV is dying a slow death.

I really don’t care whether or not Heroes sticks around–I missed a couple episodes and now, I’m completely clueless as to what’s going on. Chuck, however, is my favorite show ever. I gave up on Flash Forward, since it took way too long to get started, but I would be very sad to not see V anymore…

I could care less about Chuck, but I do hope V and Human Target make it. As it is, I’m finding less and less worth watching on network TV. There’s going to be a HUGE hole in my TV timeslots when Lost ends or if Heroes doesn’t come back for a 5th season.

Heroes might be dump but it’s still in the top 10% of TV shows on at the moment, that’s how bad TV is. If it gets cancelled it could be something much worse replacing it.
