Will Hollywood EVER learn?!?
If our next story is any indication, probably not.
Pajiba reports that 20th Century Fox has hired screenwriter Katie Dippold to pen a script based on the popular E*Trade commercials. You know, the ones with the talking baby.
Dippold is a writer for NBC’s “Parks and Rec” and the project is described as “a ‘mission movie,’ about a group of talking babies trying to make their way across the playground.”
Apparently Fox has missed out on the fact that “Baby Geniuses” (which is exactly the same concept) is one of the lowest rated and critically lambasted movies ever made. And that while the commercials were amusing at first, they’ve really run out of a steam lately and they’re now beating a dead horse creatively.
But sure, expand that to 90 minutes….that should work out.

I… uh… what?
No. Just no.

I HATE the e*Trade baby commercials. Those ads are stupid and making a movie based on that baby is stupid.

Oh, I don’t know. I find the commercials to be at least a little humorous. But a movie? Didn’t they learn from Geico’s mistake when they allowed their cavemen be to turned into a TV series?

Wasn’t there a TV show like that? An adult-talking baby?
Baby Bob (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0307719/) . . . It was not bad, but the novelty was not enough to carry it past a few episodes.
Ronzo says
I wonder if Lindsey Lohan will star in the movie?

You. Have. GOT. To. Be. Kidding. Me.
I have been writing an article lamenting that since what seems to be 60% of the movies coming out are remakes and reboots and other ill-advised ideas (like Asteroids and Frogger), most of the better storytelling has moved to television (shows like Burn Notice, Justified, Dexter, etc)… and they go and prove my point for me!
I wonder if the jump from film to television from some of the higher profile producers and directors over the past decade had any influence on this shift as well… and whomever it is that’s making the remake Koolaid and spiking it with “let’s make a movie out of every funny popculture meme we can find over the past 30 years” pills needs to be stopped.

Only trouble with this is E*Trade is a U.S. company, NO-ONE OUTSIDE THE U.S. HAS SEEN THESE COMMERCIALS!!!!!
Kyle Nin says
“NO-ONE OUTSIDE THE U.S. HAS SEEN THESE COMMERCIALS!!!!!”
So? They’re making the movie for Americans.
