What Would Season Two of “Flash Forward” Be Like?

March 26, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 6 Comments

As April 29 approaches, many fans of “Flash Forward” are beginning to wonder if the events seen by each character in their flash can be prevented.

That question is just one of many that producer Jessica Borsiczky says will be addressed by the time the show wraps up its first season.  But she adds that figuring out whether the future seen is inevitable or not is only half the question…and that those questions would provide the basis for a possible second season.

“I think, first of all, going forward to the second season, there’s a new way to explore some of these questions,” Borsiczky tells SciFi Wire. “What’s clear to me now is it can only get better. The longer this show goes, the more exciting the premise gets. I don’t think [April 29] ends too cleanly for anyone one way or the other.”

The show has already raised the possibility of another blackout. Borsiczky agreed that the characters would experience a second blackout much differently than the first time around. “The show is called ‘FlashForward’, so I could see there being other flash-forwards,” she said. “I think that would be fun. I think that once it’s happened once and we’ve gone through this season and we have a sense of whether or not things come true, going into it again I think our characters would definitely have an educated point of view about it. They’d be old hats at it.”

Actor Jack Davenport adds that fans thinking they’ll have all the answers on April 29 may be in for a bit of a shock.

“Built into the initial idea of the show, it was sort of designed to wrong fool you, to think that it’s a sort of finite thing,” Davenport said. “It’s like you reach that day and the whole point is more games are afoot. I think it’s fairly clear from the scale of the first 10 episodes that this is a pretty gigantic narrative that can sort of go anywhere you want it to. I think one full season would hardly do it justice myself.”

Peyton List, who plays Nicole Kirby, is excited to see how a second season would deal with the fallout of April 29. “I think it’s interesting, because we’ve spent the whole first season reacting to this mega-disaster and this day that is coming,” List said. “What happens when that day comes? What happens after it? They bring up a really interesting point during season one where they say, ‘What if the day just comes and goes and nothing happens?’ It’s kind of like a Y2K moment. Well, we were waiting. So it’s also the reaction to, after the whole world has been put through this, what is the response to what happens in their lives, how they handle their future from then on not knowing, or not having seen a vision? There are a lot of different directions they can go in.”

“Flash Forward” airs tonight at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.

How about another flash forward on April 1st, but it too views the events of April 29th and visions are all different in the second flash. On April 29th, some of the first vision happen to some people, and some of the second vision happen to others. And did anyone have neither vision come true? This could get fun!

I almost don’t care since season one s so bad. However, if there were to be a season 2, then give me the story of the conspirators themselves. From the first localized event, to the greater one the started the series. That could be interesting. I guess.

I must admit that my schedule only permitted me to see about 4-5 of these shows. I found myself wondering if it were better suited to be a miniseries. As there are so few true science fiction shows (most are fantasy), I hope that it makes it.

I do have to say that i think flashforward is the best thing ever to hit our screens! I get so fidgety on a Monday (I’m in the uk so it is aired on that day here) Because i can’t wait for 9pm to roll round so i can get my flashsorward fix. I pre-ordered the series 8 weeks ago and it;s not out til september. I want another 20 seasons of flash forward and i would happily watch them all. Keep doing what you’re doing writers because I’m loving it!!!!
