“Torchwood” Writer Heads to Camelot

“Torchwood” Writer Heads to Camelot

March 23, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

Former “Torchwood” writer Chris Chibnall is taking a crack at a new take on the King Arthur myth.

Chinball will develop a new “Camelot” series for U.S. premium cable outlet Starz, according to SciFi Wire.

This isn’t Chinball’s first attempt at a re-examination of the Arthurian legend.  He also wrote a proposal for the BBC’s “Merlin” in 2005.

Camelot will be based on Thomas Malory’s 15th-century book Le Morte d’Arthur, but according to the press release “will weave authenticity into a modern telling of the Arthur legends that is relatable to contemporary audiences.”

“The story of Arthur isn’t history, it’s mythology, and Camelot isn’t a place but an idea of hope that has resonated at different times throughout history,” said Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht. He called Camelot “a highly entertaining and distinctly original TV program that fits in perfectly with our lineup,” which includes “Spartacus: Blood and Sand”, another historical epic.

Looks like someone is ripping-off “Kings!”

That’s fine by me. I freakin’ loved Kings. And I’m very much enjoying Starz’s Spartacus. I’ll give Chibnall’s new series at least a few episodes. He’s a good writer.

I loved Kings too and it would have been better on a cable outlet. Hopefully this will turn out well.
