Fox Wants Braga to Develop SF

Fox Wants Braga to Develop SF

March 17, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

Former “Star Trek” producer Brannon Braga could be headed back to the final frontier.

Variety reports that Fox is interested in the former “Trek” helmer developing and producing a new science-fiction series for the network.  Braga is currently working for Fox’s “24” as a producer and he also helped develop “Flash Forward.”

“Brannon quickly became integral to the success of the last couple seasons of ’24′” said Newman. “We thought it was a great idea to have someone as talented as he is here to develop. He’s known for his ability to write genre programming, and as a studio, we love that programming. It takes advantage of all the new opportunities the digital world gives you to connect with your rabid fanbase.”

“Creatively, Fox and I are very much aligned,” said Braga. “The kind of shows they do and the way they develop, it’s an innovative group. We get along very well.”

No word yet on what type of project Braga might develop for Fox.

And, of course, there is no over/under yet on how many episodes Fox would air before canceling the show.

Figures that Fox would embrace one of the two directly responsible for destroying the Trek TV franchise.

I think it would be worse if they “embraced” Rick Berman instead. Plus, I liked “Threshold” (and was mad when it got canceled) and he did that. Maybe Manny Coto could work with him? They seem to be having some sort of partnership going at the moment.

This has win-win written all over it. Braga lost whatever writing talent he had years ago, so anything he’d work on wouldn’t last past one season … And it’s on Fox, which also means it wouldn’t last past one season.
