Sign a Petition to Name a Baby “Megatron”

March 9, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 6 Comments

While Aiden and Amelia may have been the most popular names for a boy or a girl in 2009, a new on-line campaign could ensure that at least one child won’t have a lot of classmates with the same name when he or she enters school.

According to io9, a Facebook group has been set up trying to get a million fans behind a cause. In this case, its a campaign by a Transformers fan to get his sister to name her baby Megatron. The group, which has seen the original page creator blocked from offering updates due to a violation of Facebook terms of service, already had 10,000 people (as of this report) joining the cause. The page is called “My Sister Said If Get A Million Fans, She Will Name Her Baby Megatron.”

Whether or not the effort is a serious one or a real one remains to be seen. Multiple genre and parenting sites have picked up the story and published details about it, encouraging fans to head over and sign up for the group. If the plan succeeds, little Megatron is set for delivery on August 9.

If you want to sign up, you can HERE.

HAH! I think it’s hilarious, just enough to sign it. My Wife’s mother is a Librarian and had 2 kids come in wanting memberships.. Names.. Sony and Zenith. No Joke..

Cute idea and all, but by the time he gets to school age, will any of his/her classmates even know who Megatron is? And, when it gets found out – and it will, eventually – how much of an a**-kicking will this poor kid get?

In less than 2 weeks he has over the 1 million mark. I figure if it’s a girl she can go by Meg, if it’s a boy…….. TRON!
