For the second week, the team of Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese proved to be too much for the competition. “Shutter Island” took in $22.2 million at the box-office based on buzz about the movie’s twist and the teaming of Dicaprio and Scorsese.
In second place was Kevin Smith’s new movie, “Cop Out” which took in $18.6 million. Third place went to “The Crazies” which took in $16.5 million.
“Avatar” continued to hang around the top five, boosting its record-breaking box-office results by $14 million. The film could get a boost from the Oscars this weekend if it takes home statues.
The fifth spot went to “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” with $9.8 million.
