Who’s in the Running for Captain America?

February 25, 2010 By Michael Hickerson 4 Comments

We’ve heard that Captain Awesome aka Ryan McPartlin from “Chuck” could be Captain America. We’ve heard Chris Pine aka Captain Kirk from “Star Trek” could take up the famous shield.

But what about John Krasinski, aka Jim Halpert on “The Office” for the role?

That’s one of several names the Hollywood Reporter lists on the short list to play Steve Rodgers aka Captain America when the movie goes into production later this year.

Those known to be on the list with Krasinski include Michael Cassidy (who appeared in”Smallvile” and who tested for the Superman movie when McG was going to direct it), Patrick Flueger (one of the stars of “The 4400” who most recently appeared in the Tobey Maguire movie “Brothers”), Scott Porter (TV’s “Friday Night Lights”), Wilson Bethel (“Generation Kill”) and Mike Vogel (“Cloverfield”).

Chace Crawford is also in talks to screen test, though no deal has been made.

Other actors who were considered had schedule conflicts include Jensen Aickles from “Supernatural.”

Director Joe Johnson says that he wants the part to go to an American actor and, so far, no British or Australian actors have been seriously considered for the role.

What about Alan Ritchson who currently plays Thad Castle on Spikes football show Blue Mountain State and also played Aquaman on Smallville?

No British actors have been seriously considered? That blows. I’d really like to see what John Barrowman would do with that part.

I’m also saddened by this. Imagine the fun we could have had by poking fun at Captain America not being American 🙂

I think Hollywood should outsource the roll to a Bollywood actor.
