Hollywood Reporter Lists Shows on the Bubble

February 17, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 7 Comments

It’s that time of the year–time to start worrying about the future of various television shows.

The Hollywood Reporter has published their list of shows that are considering on the bubble for next season.  Among them are many of the freshmen genre series.

The death watch could be on for “V,” “Flash Forward,” “Heroes” and “24” the report indicates.  If “24” should get the axe, reports indicate that producers would like to move the concept to a theatrical release.

The news is better for two Slice of SciFi favorites–“Chuck” and “Fringe.”   The odds seem slightly better for both shows getting a new season.

I hope Fringe survives. I’m willing to give “V” a chance, since it’s only aired 4 episodes so far. “Heroes” should have gotten the ax long ago, IMHO. “Flash Forward” had so much promise. It’s an incredible concept, but for the most part, this show seems directionless and very slow moving.

I lost any interest in 24 after about season 3. Just too many “download the floorplan to may phone”/”I’ll be there in 15 minutes”/etc. moments.

    Total fantasy

I still don’t know what a show like Flashforward even needs a second season. The concept seems perfect for a one and done mini-series. Many series would be better off if the producers just planned for a limited run and then close it. Smallville is an excellent example. The show would have been infinitely better had the producers just planned for a few years of high school, then a few years of college, and then Clark puts on the cape. Instead, the show has limped alone desperately trying to come up with more excuses for Clark not to step up. We keep hearing about this great destiny he has, but he never takes any steps toward embracing it.

Too bad. You missed out on Season 5, which I believe is the best season of the entire series.

I can understand why 24, Heroes and Flash Forward are on the list but V? Its barely had a chance to get started and build an audience.

Time to say goodbye to Heros. Flash forward and V aren’t working for me either. I love scifi, and would rather enjoy Caprica, Fringe, and Chuck than put up with Flash Forward, V, or Heros. Of course I know it’s not a “or” where we get to choose our shows that stay and go. As for 24, we’ll it’s got all the campy fun of a weekly JameBond007 meets Jackie Chan romp. I’t amazing what trouble Jack can get into every week and somehow save the day. And the fighting is actually more believable than the last 007 or Bourne film.
