Can’t get enough “Avatar”?
While you wait for the sequel, you may want to head out to your local bookstore for a prequel novel that’s on the way. MTV reports that James Cameron will write a prequel novel, leading up to the events depicted during the hit film.
“Jim is going to write a novel himself,” the film’s producer, Jon Landau says. “Not a novelization — and there is a distinction. A novelization basically retells the story of the movie. Jim wants to write a novel that is a big, epic story that fills in a lot of things.”
“[We] won’t have time to do [these stories] in the movie, or maybe in sequels,” Landau explained of what Cameron will be writing about. “[So the novel will] give a foundation for the world.
“It would be something that would lead up to telling the story of the movie, but it would go into much more depth about all the stories that we didn’t have time to deal with — like the schoolhouse and Sigourney [Weaver’s character] teaching at the schoolhouse; Jake on Earth and his backstory and how he came here; [the death of] Tommy, Jake’s brother; and Colonel Quaritch, how he ended up there and all that,” Landau explained.
The novel will be the first for Cameron who has had a screenwriting credit on many of his hit films.

Hummm…. so when you have to write a pre-story to fill in the holes of your movie story, something may have failed. Wouldncha-think???

He’s wqriting a novel now, and in about 10 years we’ll finally get to see it after it’s been pared down and stripped of some of the good story points…

It’s a really good marketing idea. I wonder if the text will be in 3D?

If people are really that intrigued and love the Pandora world so much, then this makes sense. It’s not like he’s filling in holes, it’s more like he’s … smartly… exposing people to the GREATER Pandora diaspora. That makes sense. I personally thought the “world” he created was beautiful and interesting… less so the movie in itself. So, I would be very interested in understanding the culture he created and the even the other tribes of Pandora. I think this is a VERY smart idea. Hell, if the craptastic “Twighlight” books can be a hit…
