Veteran B-movie director Roger Corman has signed on to make “Sharktopus” for the SyFy Channel’s Saturday Night Theaters.
The news was revealed yesterday via Twitter, setting off a flurry of speculation on which had a better title: “Sharktopus” or “Mansquito.”
No word yet on when the movie will begin production or when we might see the final results on the air. But as soon as we have more details, we’ll let you know.

By all that is holy above – why don’t they give this wasted money to “Eureka” or “Sanctuary”???
GazerBeam says
Because, sad as it is, these movies are really cheap to make, and they bring in the ad revenue. It sucks, but it’s the way it is.

I think “Octoark” would be a better name ๐

Can shartopus be served with clamato juice?

Its good business for Corman to get some of SyFy’s money. No one knows how to put out films on a budget like he does.
Unfortunately, SyFy’s instructions to producers; create a story that threatens a group of characters (monster story), don’t waste time on exposition or character building, end with a cliffhanger at every commercial break, wrap up the story cleanly, preclude much from being created that might be interesting.
Syfy monitors its ratings minute by minute and doesn’t want anything that might cause its ratings to fall off before a commercial break. This precludes SyFy from taking chances on properties that might produce higher ratings; because they are better and more interesting films, because such movies might also cause less predictable ratings.

Bill, I understand that “shartopus” tastes like crap. ๐

Really?!?! What kind of drugs did Corman give his potential investors to convince them to invest. As for me, I’m very disappointed. I was really looking forward to a great horror movie about the dreaded Seahorse-a-pus.

You’re assuming Corman has investors. You don’t sign a deal with Corman to draw in investors. You sign him because he can crank out two hours of film in a week with no budget.
Tammy Smith says
Jeez, I wish SyFy would stop making these horrible movies.

DAMN YOU SHARKTOPUS!!!!
