Could Captain Awesome Be Captain America

Could Captain Awesome Be Captain America

February 8, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

ryan-mcpartlinRyan McPartlin, best known for his work as Devon aka Captain Awesome on TV’s “Chuck,” could add another Captain title to his resume–that of Captain America.

According to Moviehole, director Joe Johnston is considering McPartlin for the lead role in the upcoming big-screen adaptation.

The actor said he has auditioned for the role. He explains, “it is in the casting process and like many other actors, I read for it, so we’ll wait and see what happens.”

No official word yet on if McPartlin is a finalist for the role. There’s also no word yet on when the casting for Steve Rodgers aka Captain America could be announced.

As much as I would have loved to see Sam Worthington play Captain America, I think going the unknown route is a good idea.

In the long run, it will be cheaper to produce sequels with an unknown as Worthington will be commanding much higher salaries in 2 to 5 years thus blowing the budget of A Captain America Film. Similar to the route Spider-Man took making Toby a bigger star today. Shame the same did not occur with Superman Returns, we’ve been waiting for a sequel for 4 years with Brandon Routh…

Sorry, I meant Captain America. I shouldn’t have read the previous post.

This is a pretty good pick. They do want an American to play the part.

God, I sound like John Hurt in Contact.
