Fox Still Considering New “Planet of the Apes”

January 25, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

Can’t they just leave it alone already?

20th Century Fox is still considering a new “Planet of the Apes” movie reports Den of Geek.

The latest news on the project is that a new writer Street Kings’ Jamie Moss – has been brought on board to work with a draft previously put together by Scott Frank. Furthermore, the original writers of the script, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, have also been brought back to work on the film.

The new project would be a reboot of the franchise.

Rumors about a new “Apes” movie have been circulating for months now, but reached a crossroads last week when it was revealed that writer Scott Frank had left the project. Frank wanted a script that explored how the apes from the original developed and became so smart. Frank clashed with Fox execs and has left the project.

Now, we’re not sure yet what exactly a new “Apes” will look like but word is it will be a reboot.

News of all of the reboot projects has made me start pondering a “gritty”, “more realistic” reboot of the Scooby Doo franchise. In my reboot, Shaggy is a meth addict and not a stoner; Scooby is a genetic engineering project gone wrong; and Velma is a lesbian (though that really should come as no surprise to anyone). I haven’t come up with anything for Daphne or Fred yet, but it’s just a matter of time.

Love the Scooby Doo idea. Fred could be Daphne’s pimp who gets her addicted to meth, who in turn buys her junk off Shaggy and pays for it with, well, you get where I’m going…
When I think of Velma I think of Meg from Family Guy.
