Hodges Talks About Future of “Primeval”

January 22, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

Now that “Primeval” has been saved from the jaws of cancellation, series creator Adrian Hodges is giving fans hints of what we can expect when the series returns.

“Obviously there’s a question of, at the end of the last season, three major characters were stuck in the past,” Hodges tells SciFi Wire. “So a lot of the first two episodes is going to be about how some of them at least get back.”

Hodges says that in other episodes for the fourth season, the team will go forward in time.  In previous stories, the team has only journeyed to the past.

“There will be an aspect of the future in it, which is new for us,” Hodges said.

“Well, if you think of the future predators from other series, we’re going to have a kind of variation on that idea,” Hodges said. “There may also be some human intervention from the future as well.”

In the aftermath of the series’ temporary cancellation, lead actor Jason Flemyng moved on to other projects. He has agreed to return for up to three episodes, but Hodges is working on ways to advance the story without Flemyng.

“We’re going to move it on pretty fast,” Hodges said. “Jason won’t necessarily come back at the beginning of the season. We’re going to hold back his reappearance, but that will be shooting from March. We have the first five episodes written, so we’re shooting in March.”

Great news! As campy as the series is, it still manages to be good and it’s building up its mythology. So looking forward to it.

Flemyng may not be in that many episodes? I liked him. It’s too bad that he can’t do more.

I watched the first few episodes of this a few years ago…how on earth is it still going? It is total tosh. Did it get good or something?

Why is it we are happy when turds like these are saved yet when something that was great becomes just average like heroes we are all calling for cancellation.

Actually, it got pretty decent by departing from the “monster of the week” premise and introducing a general mythology/mystery of sorts. And, to be frank, this is supposed to be B-movie fun, not some profound intellectual show.

YES!!! I love this show. Now that just need to bring Misfits to the US… but it may be a bit too raw for sensible American eyes. LOL!
