When the 2009-10 schedule for NBC came out, “Day One” was slotted in as a 13-episode series for the spring season. Then came news that NBC had cut the order and decided the series would be a one-season series.
Now it appears we’ll only get two hours of “Day One.”
NBC’s Angela Bromstad, president of prime-time entertainment at NBC and Universal Media Studios, made the announcement yesterday.
“‘Day One’ is going to air as a two-hour movie,” Bromstad said during the recent Television Critics Association press tour. “We looked at after ‘V’ launched and after ‘FlashForward’ launched with a strong initial thing. We didn’t want to come on after that. As we sat down with [executive producer] Jesse [Alexander] and talked about more of the mythology, there’s just concern about sustaining that.”
Bromstad added that the “Day One” movie will consist of the pilot that was originally shot. They just didn’t shoot any additional footage. “We’ve only shot the two-hour pilot,” Bromstad said. “It will be a pilot where you could see where it could go in series, but there will be a resolve at the end of the two hours.”
There is still hope for continuing the story if the standalone movie version is a hit. “Absolutely,” she said. “If it performs, absolutely.” She has not scheduled “Day One” yet.
You’d think with the sudden need for more primetime drama, they’d keep this one goind… I think the hamster at NBC fell off the wheel. Seriously, what is up with them?
It could be that the bloom is off the rose for those connected with Heroes.
This one is from some former Heroes writer…so that may be part of it.
Plus it could mean more Chuck..and I’ll take more Chuck any day
Despite NBC’s lack of confidence in it, I’ll still be watching … whenever it airs.
So wait, they did not want to make a scifi-type show after seeing the success of other scifi shows?
Does that….my brain hurts.
after what they did to conan I’m tempted to skip it, especially now that it’s only two hours. It’d be like watching that Moore production I’ve already forgotten the name of with the VR. two hour premiere aired as a move that makes no sense.
How’s this for stupid? First “Day One” was supposed to be a TV series, then it became a mini-series, then a TV movie, and now they’re saying it won’t even be aired at all!
I NBC doesn’t want it, they should give it to Syfy, since both networks are owned by the same company.
