Rumor: Taylor Swift as Supergirl

Rumor: Taylor Swift as Supergirl

December 22, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 8 Comments

taylor_swiftYes, you read that right.  There’s a rumor floating around the Internet that singer Taylor Swift may play Supergirl.

The story, originally reported by the HollyScoop, should probably be taken with a very large grain of salt.  Here’s what they have to say:

Hollywood producers are reportedly very interested in Taylor playing the Girl of Steel for the remake of the 1984 movie, which was actually a big flop at the box office.

Supergirl—alias Kara Zor-El—first appeared in comic books in 1959. Helen Slater played the role in the movie—a spin-off of the popular Superman film series, which starred Christopher Reeves.

There has been nothing confirmed about this by any studio or Hollywood executive.  Also the title for the project is “Supergirl: A Love Story” which seems a bit far fetched.

But it’s just one of those rumors you can’t help but pass along for the conversational value….

Reeve. Christopher Reeve without an ‘s’. George Reeves played him on TV.

God, I hope not. Taylor Swift looks like a sweet kid, but… stick to pop tunes.

I, uh… what? I haven’t heard her sing much, let alone seen her act, but this sounds pretty farfetched. I mean, I get that DC is kind of lagging behind Marvel in the movie adaptation market, but they’re not going to do very well at catching up if they do something like this.

This is not a good idea. To be fair, Taylor actually did a good job on that episode of CSI she guest starred on, but that was a completely different type of role than Supergirl would be.

I loved the Helen Slater Supergirl movie. Haven’t seen it in years but I’m guessing it still hold up…
Okay, I know it hasn’t held up but still, I loved it back in the day so I’m all for a new one.
